My name is Rosanne Luciana, a London-based, Dutch-born interior designer who decided to swap her infatuation with luxury interiors and slight OCD tendancies for questionable hostels and life in nature.
After trying to backpack through East Asia in 2016, I decided that living most peoples’ ‘dream’, was in fact my own little nightmare. Stressed out from travelling from country to country and from tourist viewing platform to tourist viewing platform, I decided that I wanted to truly immerse myself into a new experience and began to hike.
Now my life exists of scrutinising gear lists and judging myself for not quite being an ultralight backpacker (but lightweight, just about.)
My first real adventure took place in Tasmania, where I thru-hiked my own route, circumnavigating the island in almost three months and 1,604 km. It was my first experience walking every single day and camping solo. After, I flew to Japan and walked the old Tokaido route from Tokyo to Kyoto.
After a few months back in London, I gave myself the challenge of walking around Iceland. Although technically summer, my 3.5 month experience was best compared to a lone expedition on a storm-ridden moon. Keep an eye on the blog as I am still updating the story!
I am now preparing to hike the 3000 km Te Araroa trail in New Zealand and I am looking forward to not being the only person walking for a stupid amount of time! I will continue to update my blog with my experiences as I go along, so keep your eyes peeled…
